Long Awaited Buffalo Springfield Tour Kicks Off in June With Six California Dates and an Appearance at Bonnaroo

Tour Features Original Members Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay, and Special Guest Gillian Welch as Opening Act

LOS ANGELES, March 29, 2011 -- The legendary Buffalo Springfield will launch a reunion tour this June with six dates in California and an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival inTennessee.  Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay form the triumvirate of singer-songwriter-guitarists that made Buffalo Springfield one of the most influential bands in rock and roll.  Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

The itinerary kicks off with two dates at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA on June 1 and 2.  Also on the schedule are pairs of concerts at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theater (June 4-5), and the Santa Barbara Bowl (June 7-8)—all of the California dates feature alt-country/folk singer-songwriter Gillian Welch as opener.  On Saturday June 11, Buffalo Springfield plays the world renowned Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, joining other headliners including Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Eminem, and the Black Keys.  Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Rounding out the Buffalo Springfield line-up are Young's longtime bassist Rick Rosas—filling in for the late Bruce Palmer—and Crosby, Stills & Nash drummer Joe Vitale sitting in for the late Dewey Martin.

Buffalo Springfield played together in concert—to great acclaim—in October 2010 at Neil and Pegi Young's Bridge School Benefit in Northern California.  The reunion marked the first live performances from the group since 1968. Bay Area music journalist Jim Harrington wrote that their set, "featured gorgeous harmonies, fine musicianship…and enough stellar songs to make one understand why the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997."  Music pundit Bob Lefsetzwrote, "the guitar interplay…is the essence of music, the interplay amongst musicians speaking to each other and ultimately to us through their instruments."

"It's hard to believe 42 years have passed since we played together as the Buffalo Springfield," says Richie Furay.   "Over the years, music never stopped flowing from each of us, and it's come 'full circle,' if you will.  And now, we get to share our hearts with you again—yes, Buffalo Springfield again!"

Buffalo Springfield first formed in 1966, when its original members converged in Los Angeles. Stills and Furay had previously played together with the Au Go Go singers, and crossed paths with Young on a tour through Canada in 1965.  Driving down Sunset Boulevard a year later, they recognized a hearse with Ontario plates—Young was behind the wheel, Palmer his passenger.  They began playing together, and Buffalo Springfield was born.  They released three albums—and classic songs including "Mr. Soul," "Rock and Roll Woman," "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing," "For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey, What's That Sound)," "Bluebird," and "Go and Say Goodbye"—creating  a sound that has never waned in influence.
