Lady Gaga Set to Perform at Biden-Harris Inauguration

Lady Gaga has joined the star-studded list of artists who are lined-up to perform next week on January 20 at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C..

The Biden-Harris inauguration committee announced the news today (Jan. 14), revealing that Gaga will perform the National Anthem. She previously tackled “The Star-Spangled Banner” at 2016's Super Bowl 50.

Gaga was also an avid campaigner for Biden during the election, appearing with him on the eve of the presidential election last November. She also appeared with him in 2016 during his It's on Us campaign to combat campus sexual assault.

When President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris take the oath of office on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, Washington D.C. will still be under a state of emergency after a mob stormed the Capitol on January 6. More than 10,000 National Guard troops will be in the city, with about 5,000 more on standby. However, the ceremony's attendance will be "extremely limited" due to the social distancing rules because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Donald Trump will not be present after disputing the election result, making him the first president to skip the inauguration of his successor since 1869.

As announced in a press release yesterday on January 13, Tom Hanks will host a star-studded televised special, titled Celebrating America after the ceremony. The 90-minute prime-time programme will also feature Jennifer Lopez, Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake and Ant Clemons.

The inaugural committee said that it would “celebrate the beginning of a new national journey toward an America united” and “showcase the American people's resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild”.

The 90-minute (8:30-10 p.m. ET) special will be aired on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC, as well as on the Committee's social media feeds, Amazon Prime Video, Twitch and Fox's NewsNOW.

Listen/stream Lady Gaga.
