Billie Eilish On the Verge of Making Met Gala History

Billie Eilish is on the verge of making her eagerly awaited Met Gala debut next Monday on September 13, where she will act as a co-chair alongside actor Timothée Chalamet, poet and activist Amanda Gorman and tennis star Naomi Osaka.

Vogue announced that Eilish would be the youngest co-chair in history of the iconic benefit in May this year, adding that her "willingness to embrace an aesthetic as innovative as her music has pushed emerging brands into the limelight and challenged old rules about how a pop star should dress."

But what does the 19-year-old Grammy winner's role entail exactly? Well, according to British Vogue, past co-chairs (including Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Rihanna) have taken the stage during the famed Met Gala dinner. Co-chairs also help with the decor, guest list, food and "general feel of the evening."

This year's theme for the star-studded event (which comes after a canceled 2020 Met Gala and a postponed May date) will be In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Honorary chairs for the evening will be Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

The museum's new exhibition will include a series of events celebrating American fashion. Part 1. In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, will debut this month on September 18 until September 5, 2022 to "celebrate The Costume Institute's 75th anniversary and explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion".

Part 2. In America: An Anthology of Fashion, opens next year on May 5 and "will explore the development of American fashion by presenting narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those spaces." It also runs until September 5, 2022.

To celebrate part two, another gala, which will adhere to the First Monday in May timing, is set to take place on May 2, 2022.
