A Decade of Filling the Skies with Music, Bringing Communities Together, and Celebrating Peace and Humanity

NEW YORK, July 12, 2011 -- Founded on the first anniversary of September 11th, The September Concert is a New York-based, now global, event which envelops the world in music surrounding the date.  It is the acclaimed mission and accomplishment of The September Concert to bring together communities in celebration of peace and humanity.

A new beginning for New York City, and indeed the entire country, is signaled by the coming 10th anniversary of September 11th.  This year will mark a transformative moment for us all.

After 10 years of - always free - concerts from New York City to 40 U.S. cities, as well as many international sites, fromSeptember 9th through 12th, The September Concert will sponsor joyous musical events in our home city in venues ranging from St. Patrick's Cathedral to Central Park, Union Square, the steps of the grand New York Public Library, the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center and Rockefeller Center. Cities around the globe from Casablanca, St. Petersburg, Rome, Poznan,Nairobi, and Tokyo to Sydney will join in this year's celebration.

Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg has recently presented The September Concert with the Mayor's Proclamation for The September Concert Day.

Children's participation is at the heart of this year's September Concert.  Haruko Smith, Founder, believes that children's involvement is central to The September Concert's vision and mission, as our young citizens are the future builders and guardians of a "culture of peace."

And so, in 2011, Young People's Chorus of NYC, New York Choral Society, and National Dance Institute (NDI) will lead The September Concert in Give Us Hope sing-and-dance-along.  They have created an exceptional series of teaching videos for it to be practiced in any classroom, office, group, or on one's own, anywhere, anytime!

During the four days of this year's The September Concert, the song will be sung around the world, uniting people. For a preview, watch below.

It is not too late for any group or community to organize a sing-along and a concert, big or small, says the organizer.  Anyone can register online with the date, venue and musicians information, to be a part of The September Concert.

Founded under the auspices of UNESCO, with an endorsement from former President Bill Clinton, The September Concert has a current outstanding Board of Directors and Advisory Board, including such prominent leaders as Jacques d'Amboise, Faith Hope Consolo, Dr. Robert Benezra, William C. Rudin, Susan Rudin, Tom Freston, Steven Spinola and Ravi Shankar, among many others.
