Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Katy Perry, P!nk and Rise Against will compete against each other for a brand new award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The 'Best Video With Message' Award is a new category to reflect music videos which give out strong positive messages of empowerment or raise awareness of social issues that affect the youth. 

The music videos nominated are: Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way'; Eminem's (ft. Rihanna) 'Love the Way You Lie'; Taylor Swift's 'Mean'; P!nk's 'F**kin' Perfect'; Katy Perry's 'Firework'; and Rise Against's 'Make It Stop (September's Children'.

The 2011 MTV VMAs will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 28.  Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Adele have been confirmed as performers.
