Florence Welch almost scrapped LP

Florence Welch has revealed that she almost scrapped her debut album after splitting with her boyfriend.

The 23-year-old, who's album 'Lungs' won Best British Album at this year's BRIT Awards, said that she wanted to "sabotage" the project following the split. "About 18 months ago I was in a seriously bad way," she told Grazia. "I'd broken up with Stuart, I felt out of control and was very raw. I was not in a good frame of mind. It seemed so wrong that when I was so unhappy in my personal life, my career was suddenly taking off. What I felt was total, paralysing fear. I couldn’t cope with the idea of making the album. I just wanted to sabotage the whole thing, not do it and just disappear."

The Florence And The Machine singer admitted that she then spent a family holiday grieving the split, but realised that singing helped her cope with the depression. "I spent a lot of time just crying. I felt quite reckless with grief. I didn’t care about anything," she continued. "I got through that depression, that heartbreak and so many other things with the album, which is why it’s so emotional. It’s possibly why so many people connect with it."
