Alanis Morissette confirms she's in talks to do 'American Idol'

'Ironic' singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette has confirmed that she's in talks for the final open judging spot for 'American Idol'.

Speaking to CNN, she revealed that while she can't discuss the details of the conversations she's been having with the show's bosses she can say that a potential panel position has been mentioned:

"Yes, I have been in conversations about it, and that's the degree to which I can share the info right now."

Following the departure of judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, there were two spaces waiting to be filled although one has already been taken by vocal sensation Mariah Carey. Morissette added that she would love to be involved because she has so much experience to offer aspiring musicians:

"I live to mentor, so my heart is much more open to the idea of that than even 10 years ago when I, perhaps, wasn't in a position to be able to offer much advice, solicited or otherwise. I would do it formally, for sure."
