Alanis Morissette on Green Day's frontman: 'He's braver than I am going to rehab and we should support him'

Songstress Alanis Morissette has been performing a cover of Green Day's 'Basket Case' this week as a tribute to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong who recently entered rehab, and she revealed "he's braver than I am".

Speaking to Billboard.com about his on-stage meltdown, which happened after Green Day's set was cut short to make more time for Usher at the iHeartRadio Festival, she explained the industry has failed a band with serious longevity and they need to be supported:

"Let's just support the fragile artist. I've always been an advocate and supporter of artists and Billie Joe to me -- he deserves to be bowed down to. He's been in this industry for a long time and so for him to experience the consequence of a system that kind of set it up for him to fail is a travesty to me."

She continued: "I think he's braver than I am. Also women being upset are deemed hysterical. Men being upset are deemed valiant. It's a little more dangerous for a woman to flip out in that way."
