Amy Winehouse documentary gets UK release date

A new documentary about Amy Winehouse has been given a UK release date.

Amy will be released via Altitude Films on July 3.

The flick will be directed by Asif Kapadia and it uses previously unseen footage.

A poster for the documentary film has also been revealed and it runs with the tagline 'The girl behind the name'.

Universal Music UK CEO David Joseph previously said about the film:

"About two years ago we decided to make a movie about her - her career and her life. It's a very complicated and tender movie.

"It tackles lots of things about family and media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius."

Winehouse released two studio albums before passing away aged 27 in her London home in 2011.

She unleashed her debut record 'Frank' in 2003 before 'Back to Black' hit No.1 in the UK three years later.

The singer's cause of death was later confirmed as alcohol poisoning.
