Amy Winehouse's father flies home to be with family

Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, has flown back from New York City to London to be with his family, cancelling his engagements. He left JFK airport yesterday (July 23) afternoon.

Mitch was set to perform at the Blue Note Jazz Club on Monday. The jazz club’s website read on Saturday July 23: "We are very sad to report that the Mitch Winehouse performance on Monday July 25 is canceled due to the unexpected death of his daughter, Amy Winehouse.”

Amy Winehouse was found dead in her north London flat yesterday (July 23) afternoon around 4pm. She was 27 years old.

The official police line is that there is no suspected foul play.

Superintendent Raj Kohli said, "I am aware of reports suggesting that the death was a result of a suspected drug overdose, but I would like to re-emphasise that no post-mortem examination has yet taken place.”

Fans have been flocking to the singer's home to lay flowers, cards and messages, as well as visiting Camden's Hawley Arms pub – where Amy used to frequent.
