Amy Winehouse to be remembered in 2011 MTV VMAs special tribute

Organizers for 2011 MTV Video Music Awards have been "talking about acknowledging" Amy Winehouse during this year's award show on August 28.

VMAs executive producer Amy Doyle told Billboard: "We had a great history with Amy. She was very near and dear to us."

After reports speculating a Britney Spears tribute at this year's event surfaced online, Doyle confirmed that they will be paying homage to the 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' hitmaker.

"Britney will be at the show and we'll be paying tribute to her," Doyle said.

"She was having an incredible year and she is so beloved by the MTV audience that we started to think what could we do that would be a different experience [from years past]."

She added: "Obviously everything from her choreography to her fashion to her videos will be [covered]. We said, 'Let's challenge ourselves to do something unique'."

Last month, after Winehouse was cremated, MTV paid homage to the late singer by broadcasting a special tribute concert which included with her rarely-seen performances from 2007, at the height of her career.
