Lisa Canny now crowned as winner for Future Music’s National songwriting contest in the UK

Thus adding more strings to her bow!

Hailing from Co. Mayo on the West Coast of Ireland, Lisa Canny grew up immersed in the traditional Irish music scene. 7-time All-Ireland champion on harp and banjo, Lisa has toured the U.S., Canada, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, UK and Ireland extensively as lead singer with groups Celtic Crossroads and The Young Irelanders, playing to live crowds of over 50k and appearing on numerous PBS specials to millions. With a First Class Masters in Ethnomusicology from University College Cork, Lisa now also lectures part-time on the Songwriting and Creative Musicianship degrees at ICMP London.

Discovered by Miles Copeland (The Police, CIA Records) at a gig in L.A. Lisa was swiftly flown over to ASCAPs Annual Songwriters Retreat to work with some of the industry's top artists, producers and songwriters, including The Kaiser Chiefs, Plain White T's, Mike Posnor, Priscilla Renea (Rihanna, Kesha, Madonna) and Hillary Lindsey (Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood).

Lisa's debut single, and only release to date “Lifeline” was released June 2015 and went in at number 9 in the Irish charts.

Lisa’s high level of musicianship, instrumentation, songwriting craft, traditional yet soulful voice are some of the elements that help set Lisa apart. Closest comparisons include Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor & Alanis Morrisette. Expect high energy, foot-stomping shows held together brilliantly by quick wit and banter between songs!

She has already shared the stage with the likes of Beverly Craven, Gavin James, Lisa Hannigan, Hermitage Green, & The Riptide Movement to name but a few.

With her biggest live TV performance recently (20th January on The Late Late Show), and this week being crowned the winner at Future Music’s Songwriting competition, 2017 is looking like it is going to be one hell of a year for Lisa.
