Arctic Monkeys win big at NME Awards

Arctic Monkeys won five gongs at this year's NME Awards.

The British indie group were nominated for a total of eight prizes at last night's (February 26) ceremony and they won more than half of their categories.

The 'AM' stars bagged the Best British Band, Best Live Act, Best Album and Best Fan Community awards, whilst singer Alex Turner pocketed the Hero of the Year gong.

Sir Paul McCartney won the Songwriters' Songwriter prize, whilst Blondie collected the Godlike Genius award.

Other winners on the night included Damon Albarn (NME Award for Innovation), Lily Allen (Best Solo Artist) and Haim (Best International Band).

Bands who performed on the night included Metronomy, Belle and Sebastian and The Horrors.
