Arctic Monkeys were 'overwhelmed' meeting David Bowie

Alex Turner says Arctic Monkeys were left speechless after meeting David Bowie in New York.

The musician told Rolling Stone that the late star met them after the band play at New York's Bowery Ballroom soon after the release of their 2006 debut album.

The Brit said his band were left in awe by Bowie.

Turner said: "David Bowie came backstage.

"We didn't know what to say to him, you know. We were just overwhelmed. It was like a f*cking runaway train in those days."

Bowie passed away aged 69 in January after a secret battle with cancer.
