Alex Turner: “I’m not equipped to soundtrack the times”

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has admitted that he doesn’t see himself as the “voice of a generation” that many believe him to be.

In an attempt to distance himself from the moniker, the star said in an interview to be published tomorrow (May 29) in the Sunday Observer: "I just don't think I'm equipped to soundtrack the times. There might be someone out there who can do that, but I haven't cracked it.

The Monkey’s are currently promoting their upcoming album ‘Suck It and See’ which is due to drop on June 6, but Turner is still hoping to shake the weighty responsibility of spokesman off his shoulders.

Speaking on the band’s initial vault to fame and the idol status, Turner said: "We shut a lot of people out."
