Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from her husband Pete Wentz citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The couple, who married at the Simpson family home in 2008, have a two-year-old son, Bronx.

They released the following statement today: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well being remains our No. 1 priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

After Fall Out Boy disbanded in 2009, Wentz has been working on a new musical project called Black Cards while Simpson most recently appeared in the TV series 90210.
