Avril Lavigne on illness recovery: 'I was deeply touched by my fans' messages and well-wishes'

Canadian songstress Avril Lavigne has finally spoken out the mystery illness she recently told a fan she has been suffering with.

Back in December, a follower on Twitter asked her why she had been absent from social media for a while and she confessed that she had been very unwell, telling them: "I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them no why I've been absent. I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."

Now, Lavigne has opened up about the condition in a new interview with People magazine and explained that she has been dealing with Lyme disease for the last 5 months. She credited the support of her fans with her strong recovery and admitted this whole situation has been a 'wake-up call':

"(The public) were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn't feeling good. The get-well messages and videos they sent touched me so deeply. I'm 80 per cent better. This was a wake-up call. I really just want to enjoy life from here on out."
