St Ives based singer/songwriter and model with Select Model London, Bailey Tomkinson has released her latest single entitled “Skin” which showcases a significant evolution in her songwriting.

Dubbed by The Daily Mail, Mariella Frostrup on Times Radio and the legendary Brad Paisley as “Britain’s Answer to Taylor Swift” Bailey has unveiled nu-folk influences on her latest record which is likely to expand her fanbase even further.

The release caps an incredible year for the unsigned, Kernowfornia based artist which has seen the keen surfer catch another wave of national press attention following her single “Bright Red” which was an outspoken take on sustainability and social justice issues and reached #1 in both the Singer/Songwriter and Video charts.

Skin was produced by Mr BJ Jackson (To Kill A King, Eliza Shaddad) and is a beautifully understated genre-blending break-up song with a twist. It’s not about a romantic relationship that’s run aground, instead it’s about a friendship gone sour when one of the parties undergoes a personality change to fit in with another crowd. Highly relatable subject matter that will resonate with everyone.

Bailey says that “Many of my songs have tended to be about a couple breaking up or unrequited love in some way, but I’ve always felt that, my female relationships are incredibly important in my life, so I wanted to explore the break up of one of those with Skin.”

“Changing the focus and perspective of the subject matter also empowered me to play more with the sound. To draw from newer influences like Phoebe Bridgers and Sam Fender alongside long-time favourites like Taylor Swift or Bruce Springsteen.

Bailey will be touring in the UK in the spring, she has an EP set for release early in 2022 but first will round off 2021 with a home-town gig at The St Ives Arts Centre on December 28th.

About

Bailey Tomkinson is a Singer/Songwriter hailing from St Ives, Cornwall, who made national headlines in February 2020, when as an unsigned, unmanaged artist, she outsold Dua Lipa and The Pussycat Dolls to reach number one in the iTunes Video charts.

Featured in The Times, Metro and The Mail Online along with a double page spread in Hello Magazine and a live performance and interview on BBC R4's Woman's Hour, her mastery of pop-country hooks and relatable emotional storytelling has earned her comparison with early Taylor Swift & Emmylou Harris on BBC Radio 2 from country music legend Brad Paisley. She’s been pinned as one of the UK’s fastest rising talents.

Bailey’s remarkable appeal to the national media was showcased again in summer 2021 when her G7 summit protest song ‘Bright Red’ reached #1 in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts and was featured on The Times, The FT, The Independent, BBC Newscast, BBC Radio4 and Times Radio, where she was interviewed by the legendary Mariella Frostrup. Bailey also has strong associations with the Music Declares Emergency group including running IG takeovers for them during the G7 event.

Bailey is a strong live performer and has spent the last couple years performing at festivals and venues around the UK such as Boardmasters, O2 Academy Islington 2 (sold out) and The Clapham Grand supporting artists like Nick Mulvey at Rock Oyster, KT Tunstall at Tunes On The Sands and Liam Gallagher on the virtual Music Feeds with her band and solo. Bailey has also recorded a session for Bob Harris’ ‘Under The Apple Tree’ that is scheduled for release early 2022

She’s performed live sessions for Levi’s and DC shoes and has been signed to Select Models Talent Roster, modelling for brands like Nike, Roxy, Speedo and Animal.

Influenced by Sam Fender, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers, Bailey’s sound has evolved into an indie pop/nu-folk direction and is currently working on an EP featuring Rex Orange County’s saxophone player, Michael Underwood.
