Beyoncé has donated school equipment to 2,000 children in the US.

The singer made the contribution through her charity arm BeyGood.

Schools in cities such as New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore will receive backpacks stuffed with stationary and other items.

The education establishments that will benefit are generally 'underfunded'.

Fans can also purchase the backpacks and money raised through the sales will go to the 2014 Back to School Programme.

Beyoncé meanwhile is due to receive the coveted Video Vanguard Award at this year's MTV VMAs on August 24.

She will also perform on the night at the Los Angeles event.
