Beyoncé could pay "hundreds of thousands of dollars" to play Super Bowl

Beyoncé and her team could have to fork out a large sum of money to perform at this year's Super Bowl, it has been reported.

The Daily Mail reports that the singer could have to pay "hundreds of thousands" of dollars to cover costs at the half-time show in New Orleans on February 3.

This because the NFL will only pay a set fee for production - believed to be around $600,000 - but Beyoncé's show looks set to exceed that cost.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said: "We pay the production costs for the halftime show, there is no fee for the artists."

President of the consultancy Sportscorp Ltd. Marc Ganis said that the singer's label or new sponsors Pepsi could foot the excess bill. He said:

"Beyoncé will not get paid, but her back-up singers, her musicians, all the extras - they will be paid by the NFL production budget. But last year, for Madonna's show, the budget certainly exceeded the budget the NFL gave her, and that will almost certainly be the same this year. This means the artists have to pay the difference out of their own pocket - it won't be the act themselves, but their business side. Their record label, or even Pepsi could fund it for Beyoncé."

However, the exposure gained by Beyoncé's performance is estimated to land her millions of dollars due to increased sales and promotion.
