Beyoncé on Jay-Z marriage: 'He makes me the woman I am today'

'Love On Top' hitmaker Beyoncé has opened up about her relationship with Jay-Z and credited him with making her a better person.

During a new interview with Oprah Winfrey for her 'Next Chapter' show, the songstress explained that they were friends before they began dating, which provided a solid foundation on which their love could develop:

"We were friends first, for a year and a half before we'd went on any date, on the phone for a year and a half. That foundation is so important in a relationship. Just to have someone that you just like, you know? Someone that is honest."

She added that their love helps her "on so many levels" and confessed she "would not be the woman I am if I did not go home to that man".

It was also reported that Beyoncé admitted to needing Jay-Z's permission before the filming of her documentary, entitled 'Life Is But A Dream', began: "I had to get the approval of my mother and Jay-Z. After giving birth I felt like a new woman I felt so much more brave… Mystique is important to me, but at some point it’s time and I’m ready.”
