LA-based singer, songwriter, producer and violinist Sudan Archives has officially been announced as the opening act for tUnE-yArDs on their 2018 tour dates through Feb and March. Sudan Archives will also make her Coachella debut in 2018 - see below for a full list of dates.

Vocalist, and self taught violinist, Sudan Archives grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where at a young age she embarked on her unique musical journey. Taking up the violin in fourth grade, she eventually taught herself how to play the instrument by ear and performed in her fathers church choir. Ultimately growing out of what Cincinnati had to offer, Sudan headed out West to pursue music. Moving to Los Angeles, Sudan Archives was inspired to explore a connection to Northeast Africa and solidified her own personal style in the process. This influence lead to the fusion of African string instruments with electronic production and R&B, creating the distinctive folk-and-soul project that is Sudan Archives. The 23 year old's debut self titled EP on Stones Throw, released last summer, was met with high praise from NPR, Pitchfork, The FADER, Vogue, FACT, Rolling Stone, Bandcamp, LA Weekly, The New York Times and more, also earning the #1 spot on the Vinyl Factory's Favorite 12"s of 2017 and named one of the Top Newcomers of 2018 by The Guardian.

Just released, you can now watch the Sudan Archives' performance for French platform La Blogothéque. Shot in Utrecht during Le Guess Who Festival at Oude Hortus' historic greenhouse, this special stripped-down session for La Blogothèque's Take Away Show series includes the songs "Come Meh Way" and "Wake Up".

Watch for more from Sudan Archives to be announced soon!

PRESS PRAISE FOR SUDAN ARCHIVES

"It is rare that a new artist is so innovative that their music genuinely surprises you...[Sudan Archives] self-titled debut EP... combines R&B, funk and West African fiddling to make some of the most exciting new folk music." - FACT

"Armed with little more than a digital looping station and a violin, Sudan Archives finds singularity and certain value in a sound that suggests both the depths of her ability and the untapped potential of the instrument itself." - PITCHFORK

"One of the most original and best records of the year, Sudan Archives expands and reimagines the possibilities of the violin, a difficult thing to do in a postmodern world in which everything seems to have been done." LA WEEKLY

"just like how Sudan Archives found an unlikely home on Stones Throw Records, the beloved hip-hop label known for releasing albums by Madvillain and J Dilla, Park has found that seemingly mismatched sounds, styles and ideas often work out in unexpectedly brilliant ways." - PASTE

"If Erykah Badu wandered back to her roots with a four-track, you could imagine something such as this emanating fragrantly from the sessions." - THE GUARDIAN
