Rising Los Angeles singer-songwriter Jensen McRae started 2021 with viral notoriety and buzzworthy critical acclaim and today launches her first new single of the year, “Starting To Get To You”. The sweetly confident love note is a deeper confessional; an upbeat ode to crossing lines and breaking down walls.

McRae hones in on a platonic friendship with a wounded love interest who has unknowingly held his guard- and starts to show promising signs for romantic redemption. Premiering earlier today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio, McRae said “Starting To Get To You is about the slow burn. It’s about being friends with someone for a while and always wondering if maybe you could be something more, and then after a long time, everything just sort of falls into place and you see each other in a whole new light.” Listen to “Starting To Get To You” here.

Last week Jensen unveiled a powerful acoustic arrangement of her breakout single "Wolves", released to commemorate the song's one-year anniversary. The song was put into heavy rotation at KCRW, who went on to champion "Wolves'' as one of the Best of 2020, helping garner the track missions of streams.

McRae went viral earlier this year for her preemptive Phoebe Bridgers tribute song, "Immune", a humorous and accurate take on the indie rock darling’s easily recognizable style. Bridgers shared both the viral clip and song, ushering in media praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Vulture, UPROXX, NY Post, Billboard, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, and more. Jensen also recently collaborated with fellow rising Black folk artist Joy Oladokun on a track called "wish you the best" as well as with X Ambassadors on their new single, "Skip That Party."

Born in Santa Monica and raised in the Woodland Hills suburbs of Los Angeles in a bi-racial black and Jewish family, McRae was immersed in music at a young age. While in high school McRae attended GRAMMY Camp in Los Angeles and received a full ride to attend the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. She later graduated with a degree in popular music performance. McRae describes herself as a worldly person and describes her music as folk alternative pop. In 2019, Jensen came onto the scene releasing her first single "White Boy' and was later followed with the 2020 releases ''Wolves" and ''The Plague." McRae was named KCRW's favorite new artists of 2020 and NPR's Slingshot's 2021 Artists To Watch. She has also been included in #YOUTUBEBLACK Voices Artist Class of 2021, alongside Brent Faiyaz, Mariah The Scientist, Rexx Life Raj, Serpentwithfeet, Tkay Maizda, Sho Madjozi, and more.

You can watch Jensen’s performance at the “Rock ‘N’ Relief Live Stream” alongside the Foo Fighters, Sheryl Crow, Deadmau5, Carly Simon, Sammy Hagar, and more. The event will raise funds for CORE’s mobile Covid-19 vaccination program, which brings access to the vaccine directly to communities who need it most across Los Angeles.

It's been a transformative year for Jensen McRae and her anticipated debut album is slated for release later this year - much more to come.
