Blur hope new album outsells Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran

Blur reckons their new album can outsell the likes of Sam Smith.

The reformed group announced on Thursday (February 19) that they will unleash the new record 'The Magic Whip' on April 27.

Speaking to The Sun, singer Damon Albarn said that he hopes the album will top Smith's 'In The Lonely Hour' and Ed Sheeran's 'x' in the chart.

Both records were released in 2014 but they are still periodically topping the UK chart.

Albarn said: "Surely acts like Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran can't possibly sell as many records as us this late into their records' lives, can they?

"Our album is a decent record and we really wouldn't be putting it out after such a long hiatus and stuck our necks out if we didn't believe in it.

"It has to be one of our best records, if not our best record."
