Multi-Platinum, ARIA and APRA award-winning artist Julia Stone has signed an exclusive global recordings deal with BMG.

The signing comes with the announcement that Julia will release her first solo album since 2012, with the single ‘Break’ to be released on Thursday, 16 July. The single follows Julia’s curation of the charity album Songs For Australia, which was released in early 2020 to raise funds for a number of organisations providing bushfire relief. The album featured covers of iconic Australian songs by artists including Dermot Kennedy, The National, Laura Mvula, Damien Rice, Kurt Vile, Petit Biscuit and more.

Julia Stone said, “When I first met Heath and the BMG Australia team I was overwhelmed by their creativity, sincerity and drive. They have a really strong vision for how BMG and the artists they sign can work together in a progressive and effective way. It’s no surprise that the rest of the team around the world share this passion. I’m excited to work with everyone at BMG on this new record.”

Heath Johns, BMG Managing Director Australia, said of the signing, “Julia Stone is a certified icon and her new music is beyond masterful. Starting with the majesty of ‘Break’, we are truly looking forward to sharing all of Julia’s new songs and visuals with fans around the world. I know I speak for BMG globally when I say that we are genuinely thrilled beyond words to be working with Julia and her amazing team at TaP Music”.

Julia Stone released her first solo album The Memory Machine in 2010, followed by her 2012 sophomore album By The Horns, which peaked at number 11 on the ARIA Albums chart. Julia is also one-half of the billion-streaming, sister-brother duo Angus & Julia Stone. Together they have released four studio albums – A Book Like This (certified Platinum), Down The Way (triple Platinum and charted at Number One in Australia), Angus & Julia Stone (Platinum, charted at Number One and recorded and co-produced by Rick Rubin) and Snow (Gold and charted at number two).

Angus and Julia Stone’s singles ‘Big Jet Plane’ and ‘Chateau’ are certified Platinum and triple Platinum, and were voted as Number One and number three respectively in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2010 and 2017. They have won ARIA Awards for Album of the Year, Best Adult Alternative Album and Single of the Year, as well as APRA Awards for Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Blues and Roots Work of the Year.

Julia Stone joins an international BMG label roster that includes Run The Jewels, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, and alt-J, and a local roster including Tim Minchin, Dune Rats, Hockey Dad, Dope Lemon, Winston Surfshirt (ex. ANZ), SAFIA (ex. ANZ), CHAII, and many more.
