BMG has announced the launch of a new international brand for catalogue releases called The Iconic Song. The first product released under the brand is a limited 30th-anniversary box set of Scorpions’ iconic power ballad and the soundtrack of the fall of the Berlin Wall, ‘Wind Of Change’, set for release on October 3, 2020.

Peter Stack, BMG, EVP Global Catalogue Recordings, said: “The launch of The Iconic Song is another great example of how closely intertwined BMG’s global publishing and recorded businesses are. There are no limits to creativity, making good on our promise to deliver an outstanding experience and to super-serve our artists, writers and their audience.”

Said Philipp Neuhaus, BMG, Director Catalogue Marketing GSA: “The brand offers a great new platform to re-evaluate iconic BMG repertoire internationally. As the proud publisher of ‘Wind Of Change’ BMG has actively taken on the role of developing an outstanding new product together with our recorded team.”

Said Klaus Meine, vocalist and frontman of the Scorpions: “The making of the ‘Wind Of Change’ boxset has been a very inspiring journey for me. I really enjoyed working with the whole BMG team on this project that is so very much connected with a historical moment in time.”

‘Wind of Change’, featured on the Scorpions’ eleventh studio album, Crazy World (1990), served as a soundtrack to the Revolutions of 1989 and is inextricably linked to the end of the Cold War, the Fall of the Berlin Wall and eventually the reunification of East and West Germany.

Released in 1991, the single became a worldwide smash hit, topping the charts in Germany and across Europe. ‘Wind of Change’ climbed to number four on the Billboard 200 and number two in the UK, giving the Scorpions – then 25 years into their career – their biggest hit to date. With estimated sales of 14 million copies sold worldwide, ‘Wind of Change’ is one of the best-selling singles in history.

The hand-numbered box set includes an 84-page hardcover book with rare and previously unseen photographs, a vocal and piano arrangement, a piece of the Berlin Wall, as well as five versions of the iconic song, including an unreleased demo on CD and 12“ LP. The edition is limited to 2020 units.

On August 13, 2020 – the same day that the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the Moscow Music Peace Festival that Klaus Meine inspired to write the song, took place in 1989 – the pre-order of the box set started exclusively on www.TheIconicSong.com; it will be released on the day of the 30th anniversary of German unity, October 3, 2020.

Philipp Neuhaus, BMG, Director Catalogue Marketing GSA, was in charge of supervising and driving the launch of The Iconic Song’s first product. Neuhaus joined BMG in April 2020. He has previously worked as Head of Catalog and TV Concept Marketing at Sony Music Austria.
