Thirty-five years after Rick Astley unleashed his megahit on an unsuspecting world, it’s back with a brand-new video. The animation lovingly recreates all of the most memorable moments from the original video, which has since exceeded 1.2 billion views on YouTube.

The track, which has become one of the internet’s most resilient memes thanks to “rickrolling”, also stands as one of the crown gems of the BMG catalogue bringing in on average, 20 million streams globally, per week.

Commenting on the video revamp Rick Astley said: “Last year we had the idea for a frame-by-frame animated remake of Never Gonna Give You Up! After a lot of hard work, it’s finally ready & I love it!”

In the summer of 1987, Rick Astley made one of the biggest debuts in UK pop history. His era-defining classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ shot to Number One and remained there for five weeks.

The new 3’ 32” clip created by 50/50 Mediahouse, the production company created by Astley’s Oscar-nominated manager Lene Bausager, coincides with a newly remastered version of Rick’s global multi-Platinum selling debut album Whenever You Need Somebody.

The album and the video are released as Rick embarks upon a huge US tour with New Kids on the Block. His next UK show comes with a headline set at Glasgow’s Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand on August 10.
