BMG has announced the appointment of Boris von Wiedebach to lead its global finance and controlling team. As EVP Group Controlling he will report directly to Chief Financial Officer Thomas Coesfeld.

Boris von Wiedebach joins BMG after eighteen years with Universal Music Group in Germany, latterly as Vice President Controlling and Finance, responsible for finance, investments and sales at Germany’s largest music company. He is a certified auditor in Germany, and previously worked as a chartered accountant and M&A advisor for Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young advising media industry clients.

At BMG von Wiedebach will now be responsible for overseeing the company’s Berlin-based headquarters Finance & Controlling organization, driving and optimizing the processes and output of the Finance & Controlling team globally.

His key reports in his new role include Mathias Thiemig, VP Finance & Business Analytics as well as Tobias Ahfeldt, VP Group Reporting & Controlling.

Thomas Coesfeld said, “We are delighted to welcome Boris to BMG. The finance function in a music company has a special responsibility not just to help run the business and achieve our strategic goals such as our ‘Boost’ acquisition program, but also to safeguard and optimize the earnings of our artist and songwriter clients. I am determined to further elevate the role of finance as a core business partner within BMG and Boris with his combination of technical and music industry expertise is ideally suited to help us achieve that goal.”

Boris von Wiedebach said, “I have watched in admiration the way BMG has challenged convention in an often conservative music business and has aligned itself with artists and songwriters, while also delivering a profitable business. I would like to thank Thomas for the opportunity to contribute to this mission.”

Von Wiedebach joins ahead of BMG announcing its results for the first half of 2022 on August 31 when the company is expected to show strong organic growth as well as growth arising from its catalogue acquisition program which has seen it acquire significant catalogues over the past 18 months including rights in the work of Tina Turner, Mick Fleetwood, Mötley Crüe, ZZ Top, and Primal Scream, among others.
