Britney Spears has reached out to Katy Perry after she paid tribute to one of her old outfits at this weekend's MTV VMAs.

The 'Roar' star arrived at the Los Angeles event on Sunday (August 24) alongside collaborator Riff Raff as they wore double denim.

It was a direct tribute to Spears and Justin Timberlake's similar outfit at the Annual American Music Awards in 2001.

Speaking on Twitter, Spears said that she loved Perry's outfit as double denim received a revival.

She said: "Just when I thought the denim dress had retired....you bring it back! You looked amazing tonight bb ;)."

Perry had earlier been encouraged by Spears to do an impression of Woody Woodpecker after she posted online a video of herself copying the character.

However, it seems the US star had other things in mind when she decided to do an 'impression'.
