Britney Spears has hailed her return to the MTV VMAs stage.

The singer performed 'Make Me' alongside G-Eazy at the New York event on Sunday night (August 28).

It was the first time the US star had performed at the ceremony since 2007.

Spears wrote on Twitter post-show: "BIG thank you to the insanely talented @Pilobolus dancers for joining me on stage tonight at the #VMAs. Loved dancing with you all!

"Tonight was unforgettable. Thank you #VMAs and thank you to my amazing fans!"

One of the singer's most memorable performances at the VMAs was in 2001 when she ran through 'I’m a Slave 4 U'.

Spears brought out a yellow snake on stage and held it above her shoulders.
