Bruno Mars slams New York Times article criticising his Super Bowl show: 'It's disgusting'

'Gorilla' hitmaker Bruno Mars has hit out at an article published in the New York Times that stated he wasn't a big enough star to fill the Super Bowl Half Time slot because he hadn't released a fragrance or been in the tabloids enough.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her show this week, the 'Locked Out Of Heaven' hitmaker explained that he was 'disgusted' by the critic's review of his Super Bowl Half Time performance and was dismayed at the implication that you're not a star until you're on the front page of gossip magazines every week:

"I did hear that and I think that was by far the most disgusting thing I think I've heard. Not because it was taking a shot at me, but I was thinking about aspiring young musicians who want to do this and even hearing the thought you need a fragrance or something like that is just is, you know what I would like to make a little speech and talk to them about this. Can I? Can I do that?"

He then added that knowing young aspiring musicians would see the article and feel discouraged was what angered him the most: "Listen, any young, aspiring musicians out there, if music is what you want to do, if music is what you love and your passion. It doesn't take a fragrance, its not about the tabloids, it's about you putting in the work, practicing everyday, practicing your vocals, practicing your instrument, practicing songwriting."

"Hopefully one day you write the song the whole world wants to get down to and I promise you, I promise you one day you're going to have your moment to shine."
