Bruno Mars on cocaine arrest: 'I don't know why I lied to the police, I was intoxicated'

'Locked Out Of Heaven' hitmaker Bruno Mars has opened up about his 2010 arrest for cocaine possession in the April edition of GQ magazine.

When asked why he initially lied to police about it being the first time he had ever used drugs, Mars explained: "I don't know where that came from. I was really intoxicated. I was really drunk. So a lot of that is a big blur, and I try every day to forget and keep pushing."

He even addressed his mugshot from the arrest, in which he can be seen grinning from ear-to-ear, and joked that he smiled because he was having his photo taken: "I have no idea . . . It was a picture!"

During the interview, the singer also spoke about his new album and explained that writing a hit single is something you can't really plan for because it's just such a challenge: "You know how hard it is to write a big song? That s**t is hard, man. It's so hard to do. Might be one of the hardest things to ever do."

Of his No.1 single, 'Locked Out Of Heaven', Mars added: "That one shocked me. That it turned out the way it did. I haven't done a song like that. And hopefully every album, I'll get that feeling. And shock the world! Shock the world!"
