Bruno Mars' mother Bernadette Hernandez died on June 1 from a brain aneurysm.

Reports of her death have come from an unnamed source at Bruno Mars' label, Atlantic Records. The publicist released the information to The Associated Press on the condition of maintaining anonymity.

It was initially reported that Bernadette Hernandez had been hospitalized following a serious heart attack.

Bernadette Hernandez was born in the Philippines before immigrating to Hawaii where she became a hula dancer.

Bruno Mars spoke about his musical childhood and upbringing in the April edition of Rolling Stone. Aged four he wrote a song titled 'I Love You Mom'. He also has a tattoo of his mother’s name on his shoulder.

Bernadette Hernandez passed away in Honolulu at Queens Medical Center. She is survived by her sons Peter (Bruno Mars) and Eric, and four daughters Presley, Tahiti, Tiara and Jamie.
