Cheryl Cole's dad says singer wanted wedding to be 'completely private'

Cheryl Cole's father has revealed that her daughter wanted to keep her wedding as private as possible.

As previously reported, the singer recently revealed that she wed Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini on July 7 at Mustique beach in a surprise ceremony.

The couple haven't been together too long and this has led some into questioning whether the wedding was too soon.

However, her dad Garry Tweedy - who split from Cole's mum when she was aged 11 - told the Mirror that the event was kept absolutely hush-hush.

He said: "She has left it for a while before making it public because she just wanted it to be kept completely private. I knew about it but Cheryl did that quite deliberately. And it worked."

Step-dad Anthony Leighton meanwhile said: "I am over the moon for her. If she’s happy then I’m happy. It is a right surprise. She’s lovely and I am really happy for her. I found out through Facebook, she doesn’t bother with us much. She phones her sister and she phones her brother sometimes but what we hear is just back and forward. This is a bit of a surprise for everyone. I’m pleased for her."

This is Cole's second wedding, with the Geordie divorcing from first husband Ashley Cole in 2010.
