Cheryl Cole poked fun at Simon Cowell as she praised the success of One Direction on Twitter.

Cole was a judge on the X Factor when One Direction were contestants, with the Girls Aloud singer mentoring the female category.

Cowell was One Direction's mentor, but in a tweet posted by Cole, she joked that she in fact was on hand to help One Direction when Cowell wasn't around. She said:

"Congratulations! @louis_tomlinson @niallofficial @harry_styles @zaynmalik @real_liam_payne remember who really mentored you when @simoncowell wasn't there LMAO!! #proudofyouboys."

One Direction are of course riding the massive wave of US success at the moment, with their album 'Up All Night' shooting straight to No.1 in the Billboard charts.

As previously reported, Cheryl Cole has appeared in a new viral trailer for the film 'What To Expect When You're Expecting', which sees Cole play the role of a talent show judge.
