Leon & Harvey featuring Lady Leshurr - Finally

Ex- So Solid Crew member Harvey unveils the first collaborative project between himself and footballer-turned-singer Leon McKenzie; 'Finally'. The track, a smooth pop song, also features the hotly-tipped femme MC Lady Leshurr.

 

Harvey and McKenzie began working together after the latter's retirement from professional football in December 2011. The two have been friends since they both played the sport together as youngsters, and this is their first collaborative venture into music, alongside launching their own music label this month, 'M & L Recordings' as a joint venture with Absolute Marketing.

 

Leon McKenzie was born in Croydon, South London, to a boxing family, his Dad, Clinton Mckenzie, is a former British & European champion, and Uncle, Duke Mckenzie, a former 3-time World champion who went on to be awarded an MBE. After a childhood honing his football skills, the age of 17, Leon was fast-tracked to Crystal Palace's first team, scored on his debut and signed professional the following day. After 6 years McKenzie moved on to Fulham, Peterborough, Norwich and others.

 

It was injuries that spelled out the end of his career, having to take long period of time off from sport, he spent time in his studio, recording. Recent interviews with the Daily Mail, ITV Anglia and TalkSport in which McKenzie opened up about his depression granted him overwhelming public support.

 

Harvey's 2011 release, a Summer anthem, 'Hot Gyal' featuring Gyptian re-introduced the rapper back into music after a long absence focusing on his film-career. Having starred in 'The Big I Am' with Michael Madsen, and 'Out For A Kill' with Steven Segal. Harvey also stars in 'All Things To All Men' and 'The Naked Poet' in 2012.

MC Harvey

MC Harvey was one of the forming members of UK garage collective So Solid Crew. So Solid Crew was a UK Garage collective from London whose hits include "Oh No (Sentimental Things)" and "21 Seconds", the latter reaching number one in the UK Singles Chart in August 2001. SSC's first album They Don't Know was released in October 2001, followed by a remix album entitled Fuck It in December 2001.

After leaving So Solid Crew, Harvey developed a TV career, including presenting for Channel 4’s T4 and appearing on reality TV shows The Games in 2003 (which he won) and several series of The Match on Sky One . He has also appeared on several programmes as a guest including Never Mind The Buzzcocks and has hosted the dance competition Bump 'n Grind on the youth cable channel Trouble and Footballers' Pads on Sky One.

He made his theatre début in London's West End in the musical Daddy Cool in 2006 and was nominated for whatsonstage.com / Theatre Goers Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. In the same year, he also participated in a celebrity version of Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me.

Harvey joined the line-up of Angie Le Mar's play The Brothers at the Hackney Empire 2008 which was also showed on MTV Base. He had a hit show on the same channel called The Young Gods Of Comedy; he visited a community college as a motivational speaker about the music industry, singing songs and inviting students to show their rapping skills.

Harvey’s forthcoming album ‘Harvey presents... D Elite’ which features collaborations with Chipmunk, Mz Bratt, Ashley Walters, Oxide & Neutrino, Swiss, Doctor and Gyptian, set for a 2012 release date.

Leon McKenzie

Leon McKenzie studied in a performing arts school called Gloria Berry's from the ages of 8-11. When football took over he landed a 2yr YTS with Crystal Palace at the age of 14, later fast tracked to the first team at the age of 17, scoring on his debut. The next day he signed professional, spent 6 years with Crystal Palace and then went on to play for; Fulham, Peterborough, Norwich, Coventry,
Charlton, Northampton and Kettering.

He was promoted to the Premier League twice; once with Crystal Palace 18 years old via a Wembley play off final and Norwich was promoted as Champions from the Championship to the Premier League.

McKenzie scored 8 Premier league goals, including some famous winning goals, 1 of them being a 2-0 win against Manchester United. Over a 17 year career he scored 115 goals.
