Coldplay share some surprising stories of past rejection

British rock band Coldplay may be enjoying the high after their Super Bowl extravaganza, but the band have revealed that during their early days they were still met with a fair amount of skepticism, and despite their fame and success, they are no strangers to rejection.

According to a soon to be published interview with Rolling Stone, the band's lead singer, Chris Martin, opened up about Beyonce once rejecting a potential collaboration with the band because the song wasn't up to her standards.

Martin admitted that Beyonce turned him down in the sweetest possible way, however. She said: 'I really like you but this is awful.'

Despite being turned down, he explained that his feelings weren't too hurt. The band and the superstar performed together recently, along with Bruno Mars, as part of last Sunday's (February 7) Super Bowl halftime show, where Beyonce managed to eclipse Coldplay's set with her own performance.

And it's not only Beyonce who seems to have rejected the band in the past. Last month Coldplay's drummer, Will Champion, told NME that the late David Bowie had also once declined a collaboration with Coldplay after hearing the song they were suggesting.

According to Champion, Martin asked Bowie to work on a track, only to have him reply: "It's not a very good song, is it?" Champion added: "He wouldn't just put his name to anything. I'll give him credit for that."

Last week Martin showed up during James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke' in The Late Late Show. In the sketch, Martin hitches a ride with Corden to San Francisco, where he is set to perform with Coldplay in the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, and guess whose music the two sing along to? You got it. David Bowie's.
