Chris Martin thinks he would be "terrible" without Coldplay

Coldplay's Chris Martin has never eyed a solo career and thinks he would be "terrible" as an independent artist.

Speaking to Q magazine, the rocker explained that having the backing of a talented and devoted band helps his vocals to stand out and he doesn't feel that his success would be as impressive if he had started out on his own:

"I'd just be terrible. I don't think I could even get a gig in Butlins - and I've been to Butlins. I think me and my keyboard would be [on the high street] most days, getting shouted at."

Talking specifically about the influence Coldplay has as a group, Martin added: "They're very good friends to me because they know that, as the singer, and especially because I'm married to Gwyneth Paltrow, I get eight times as much media as them."

"They know how much I need them, I just couldn't do it on my own."
