Coldplay tease 'theoretical' album plans

'Paradise' rockers Coldplay have revealed that they have been talking about working on a new album.

The band picked up the prize for Best Live Band at Wednesday night's (February 20) BRIT Awards in London and speaking to Radio 2's Jo Whiley, guitarist Jonny Buckland explained that studio time has been part of their routine lately although at the moment it's just casual: "There is a theoretical album [in the works]."

The band's drummer, Will Champion, went on to add that a new record would be great and it has been discussed: "Me and Jonny have been going into the studio just noodling; we go in and noodle for an hour and then go get a cup of tea or coffee! No, there's rumblings [of a new album]."

When asked about a potential new sound, Champion teased that an acoustic or more stripped-back style might be fun to work with: "Yeah, that might be nice, actually. There's only so far you can go without becoming pompous and a bit overblown."
