Fan’s story moves Chris Martin to tears

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was moved to tears by a resilient fan’s struggle to recover after a horrific car accident.

Edward Buckley had to relearn to talk and walk after a speeding car smashed into him in January 2012, causing him critical head injuries.

Martin, moved by the fan’s story, presented Buckley with a signed copy of his own lyrics, which he bought back in an auction from the charity that helped Buckley, Nordoff Robbins, for £11,000.

The singer was seen wiping away tears when he met the 21-year-old Buckley last week at the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef Awards.

"It was incredible meeting him," said Martin. "He's just a good guy and it puts things into perspective, hearing what he's been and is going through."

At the time of the accident Buckley was training to become a pilot and enjoyed playing the piano. He has managed to relearn the latter skill. Following the gift, Buckley thanked Martin and his other supporters at the event.

"I would like to thank Nordoff-Robbins for everything they have done," he said. "Nobody believed that I would ever be able to play piano again."
