David Bowie memorial concert to be held in New York

A memorial concert will be held for David Bowie in New York in March.

The music hero passed away on Sunday (January 10) aged 69 after an 18-month battle with cancer.

A tribute event was originally scheduled for the Carnegie Hall in New York on March 31.

However, following the sad news, organiser Michael Dorf - who runs city venue Knitting Factory - has decided to change the show into a memorial gig.

The likes of Cyndi Lauper, Perry Farrell and The Roots are set to perform.

Bowie's long-time producer Tony Visconti will also appear, with around 20 acts scheduled to perform.

Tickets for the tribute night went on sale on Monday (January 11) - the day the news of Bowie's passing was announced.

The organisers said: “The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past seven months, into a memorial concert. While the series has featured surprise appearances and performances of honourees several times in the past.

“This year’s concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of his music by his friends, peers, and fans. We are all deeply saddened by this news.

"The timing of our public on-sale date is bizarre in its timing and the show is taking on many more emotions. RIP David and may God’s love be with you."

Meanwhile, the last photo published of Bowie has been revealed.

A picture of the Brit wearing a suit and a hat on his birthday (January 9) was uploaded to the musician's Instagram page - check it out below.
