Bowie's back catalogue makes huge impact on UK charts

David Bowie is experiencing a huge UK chart boost following his death on Sunday (January 10).

The 69-year-old musician passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer.

He died just days after releasing his 25th record 'Blackstar', which the Official Charts Company said would have most likely topped the UK albums chart regardless.

In a new chart update released today (January 12), the company revealed that Bowie's latest effort is now sitting on over 90,000 combined sales.

That is an increase of almost double from Monday (January 11).

Three of Bowie's greatest hits records have also shot up the chart; 'Nothing Has Changed' is No.7, '1969/1974 Best Of' is No.13 and 'Best of Bowie' is No.27.

His 1972 effort 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' is No.19, while 'Hunky Dory' - released in 1971 - is No.20.

'Aladdin's Sane' is No.32, with the likes of 'Low' and 'The Next Day' entering the top 50.

In the singles chart, 1977's 'Heroes' is placed at No.25, while 'Life on Mars' is No.34.

'Starman' follows at No.35, with his latest single 'Lazarus' sitting at No.86.
