David Bowie named Britain's best dressed person of all time

David Bowie has topped a poll to find Britain's best dressed person.

The singer, who released comeback album 'The Next Day' earlier this year, came first in a search run by BBC History Magazine to find the country's top fashion icon of all time.

He was nominated for consideration by designer Wayne Hemingway, achieving 48.5 per cent of the public vote.

The rest of the list evokes a historical feel, with Elizabeth I (pictured below) coming in second and Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire landed third.

In fourth place is George 'Beau' Brummell whilst former British monarch Queen Alexandra is No.5.

Commenting on the poll, BBC History magazine editor Rob Attar said: "Bowie had to overcome a king, two queens and a political heavyweight to triumph in our poll, and in doing so has struck a blow for 20th and 21st-century fashions."
