With Special Guests The Pierces

Take That star and recently appointed X Factor head judge Gary Barlow today announces his first UK solo shows in over 11 years. The two concerts (Dec 5th & 6th) will be held at London’s stunning Royal Albert Hall, an all-time favorite venue of Gary’s, and will support disadvantaged young people by raising vital funds for The Prince’s Trust and The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.The acclaimed singer /songwriter sisters, The Pierces, will be Gary’s special guests on both nights, opening up proceedings with their beautiful harmonies and unique musical sound.

Gary is one of the UK’s most-loved musicians, a member of one of the biggest and most successful bands the UK has ever produced, a distinguished singer/songwriter and now also a judge on the new series of X-Factor. He has long been a supporter of the work undertaken by youth charity The Prince’s Trust having donated proceeds from his GB40 show earlier in the year and also attended The Trust’s Rock Gala event in 2010.

"It’s really important to me that disadvantaged young people get the support they need, especially at the moment. The Prince’s Trust along with The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry are both doing great work with young people and I liked the idea of recognising the work of the whole family. I hope the money raised through these concerts will make a real difference to young lives.”

‘Gary Barlow in Concert’ will be Gary’s first full solo shows since 1999 and will see him perform songs from his incredible music career spanning over 20 years. Take That have sold over 30 million albums and seven million tour tickets over the course of their career, with their recent Progress Live Tour being the biggest tour that the UK and Ireland have ever seen. Gary’s contribution to British Music as a whole has been unquestionable and his reputation as a singer, songwriter, pianist and performer is undeniable.

Monies raised from the two concerts will go to The Prince’s Trust and The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. The money raised for The Prince’s Trust will support the charity’s UK City Riots Appeal, helping disadvantaged young people from riot-torn areas to rebuild their lives and communities. The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry will also use the funds raised to support disadvantaged young people, which is one of the Foundation’s three core project areas. In particular, it will use the funds to support innovative projects dedicated to providing young people with the tools and aspiration to fulfill their potential. Martina Milburn, chief executive of The Prince’s Trust, says: “The Prince’s Trust was set up in 1976 following social unrest and high youth unemployment. Today, our work with disadvantaged young people is more relevant than ever – with riots in our cities and the number of jobless young people at a record high. We are enormously grateful to Gary Barlow for helping us to raise funds for such a timely cause.”

Nick Booth, Chief Executive of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry says, “We are delighted to be involved in such a fantastic event, drawing attention to vital projects that are transforming the lives of disadvantaged young people across the UK. We would like to thank Gary Barlow and all those involved in the concerts and hope that, through their kindness, we can rekindle the aspirations of so many”

The Prince’s Trust
 Youth charity The Prince's Trust helps change young lives. It gives practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 13-to-30-year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. The Prince of Wales’s charity has helped more than 650,000 young people since 1976 and supports 100 more each day. Last year, more than three in four young people supported by The Trust moved into work, education or training. In April 2011, Fairbridge became part of The Prince’s Trust. The new united organisation will help 50,000 young people this year.

The Trust’s UK City Riots Appeal aims to double the number of young people helped by the charity in five of the areas hardest hit by the England riots, including Manchester, Birmingham and the London communities of Hackney, Tottenham and Croydon. To make this happen, The Trust is planning a £2.5 million investment in the hardest hit areas following the riots, giving young people positive opportunities to keep their lives on track and re-build their communities. As well as committing £1 million from funds already raised, the charity is calling on supporters to back a £1.5 million fundraising drive to raise the rest of the cash.

The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry
The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry was set up in 2009 to enable The Princes to take forward their charitable ambitions. Along with the Duchess of Cambridge, now also officially a Patron, they intend to use the Foundation as the main vehicle for their future charitable activities. Through sustainable sources of funds, the Foundation will be able to make charitable grants and support projects of particular interest to Their Royal Highnesses.

Although their Foundation is not limited to these three areas of focus, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry aim to make the following their early areas of focus:

1) Young People - particularly those of their own age and younger who are disadvantaged or in need of guidance and support at a crucial time in their lives;

2) Sustainable development - particularly to build on the growing awareness of the need to find better, more sustainable, models to balance development and the conservation of resources and the natural environment;

3) Armed Forces - for the welfare of those who serve their country in the Armed Forces. Particularly looking after those who return broken in body or mind - or not at all - and their families.
