redbook’s newest homegrown single ‘little friend’ captures them at their finest. Suffering from a nasty case of grass-is-greener syndrome, they explore the feeling of being trapped, seeing everything you want in someone else’s hands, by placing the listener in conversation with a bird.

The track lives somewhere between a lullaby and a ballad. Raw, vulnerable vocals join with beautiful guitar lines that would feel at home on any James Bay track. With the duos familiar sound at the centre, the single grows to epic proportions as redbook are joined by a literal choir of friends.

‘little friend’ is a reminder not to look past your own plate when seeing what others have been served.

About

Italian passion meets British quirk might be the best way to describe the genre-messy duo ‘redbook’.

Swiss-born pop-lover Soraya Grosso brings rich, soulful vocals and a mastery of Italian classics to mould around British-born guitarist Jake Tweddle, a self-diagnosed coffee addict raised on a steady diet of Punk and Folk. All it took was a chance meeting outside the local cinema…

Sharing a passion for the unconventional the pair found themselves playing Swiss cave-bars, shipping containers and candlelit cocktail bars before releasing their acoustic ‘Sampler’ in 2017, which they launched with a concert from their own front room.

Genre-messy really is the term with the next two years seeing the release of ’Midnight’ (2019), a pop-inspired summer singalong tune, followed by the ‘Big Smoke Sessions’ EP (2019). The raw and unforgiving 4-track EP was born from 7 days in the studio blending folk, pop, funk and rock into the duos earliest tracks plus a bonus, straight-to-tape acoustic performance.

Their 2020 valentines day release ‘i love you’ took a closer look at the everyday love people tend to forget and is ‘’a reminder of the honesty and simplicity that can come from a love song’’ (A1234 blog). It captures that familiar feeling of delicateness that Soraya could only describe as, ‘‘when you want to cuddle a dog but you know you can’t squeeze too tight’’. Puppy love aside, the song is an “embrace full of love” with ‘‘honest and raw” storytelling “instantly connecting with the listener’’ (CeasarLiveNLoud).

Ey-Corona! When 2020 took a turn, the pair turned their hands to new challenges collaborating with German EDM producer Hadron Sounds to release the ‘i love you - Hadron Sounds remix’ (2020). Holed up in a seaside apartment the duo keep pushing themselves and sharing their journey with their audience the only way they know best: Creating music and silly instagram videos...
