Ambivalence For You is the follow up single from 4 piece bubblegum goth band China Bamboo. At the tender age of 16, Ruby was experiencing the growing pains of adolescence. She found herself in a spiral of confusion and contradictory ideas and feelings - in a state of ‘Ambivalence’. Where the good was only ever temporary and the sadness was real.

Disguising the song as a love song, she poured her heart into her keys and wrote the melancholy Ambivalence. Although the song was cathartic at the time, Ruby decided to leave it in the past.

Turn forward a couple of years and newly formed China Bamboo are revisiting some of Ruby’s back catalogue for ideas. Band mate Danny came across the abandoned song and is struck by it's sad yet hopeful lyrics. Drawing influence from Kate Bush’ Running Up That Hill (Deal With God) he wanted to give the song a renewed feel siting the importance of resonating chords captivating the emotion of the song. Ruby says “Danny’s passion and new vision for the song was a turning point”.

Ethereal vocals and whispering synths caress you to and from reflecting the song’s intimate theme. A cascading guitar riff falls beneath the strong “For You’s” which echo throughout the chorus. The climatic bridge features stabbing guitars, drums and turbulent lyrics, “So ill just die now cos I am so sad and will you miss me if I am that bad.” The enchanting Ambivalence (For You) is a far cry from the band’s debut upbeat single We’ve Discontinued showing the diversity of this young band.
