Modern Horror, is the highly anticipated third studio album from modern goth rock band Vision Video, promising to captivate listeners with its brooding atmosphere, soaring melodies, and a sonic evolution that delves deeper into the dark realities of the human condition. The Athens, Georgia-based band continues to merge classic 70s and 80s goth and post-punk influences with contemporary themes, delivering an intense and visceral listening experience.

Vision Video’s third LP, Modern Horror, represents a bold step forward for the band, both sonically and thematically. Recorded at Maze Studios in Atlanta under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen (Erasure, Washed Out, Animal Collective), the album expands their sound while maintaining the grit and raw energy that fans have come to love. The album was mastered by Frank Arkwright (Joy Division, Bloc Party, Johnny Marr) at Abbey Road Studios, cementing the record’s high quality and attention to detail.

The band's unique blend of post-punk, goth rock, and alternative influences pays homage to classics like The Cure, The Chameleons, and The Cult, while introducing fresh, modern elements that speak directly to today’s listeners. Frontman Dusty Gannon, a former anti-war Afghanistan veteran and firefighter-paramedic, draws on his own experiences to explore the effects of trauma and the struggles of finding agency in an increasingly chaotic world.

Co-vocalist and keyboardist Emily Fredock complements Gannon’s haunting vocal lines with her powerful, ethereal voice, utilising vintage synths to create haunting melodies that stick long after the record ends. New drummer Ryan Houchens brings a fierce energy to the rhythm section, adding ferocity to the band's already intense sound.

Thematically, Modern Horror, dives into the visceral realities of modern life, touching on the systemic disenfranchisement and hopelessness that pervades today’s world. The record is a stark protest against rising political extremism and violence, particularly addressing the growing influence of Christo-Fascism in America. It’s a heavier, more politically charged effort than their previous releases, with Gannon’s lyrics often pleading for a release from the brutality of our current circumstances.

Vision Video’s earlier albums, Inked in Red, and, Haunted Hours, were praised for their ability to combine dreamy, goth-inspired tunes with a dark, danceable energy. Their signature sound has drawn attention from major outlets such as Pitchfork, which praised their music as "dreamy tunes tailor-made for the sort of wallflower who sprints to the dancefloor the instant the DJ drops ‘Age of Consent’ or ‘Primary’ at Goth Night."
