Indian musician and filmmaker Vaibhav Chauhan has navigated a unique journey from a modest upbringing in Noida, India, to establishing his creative voice in London. Chauhan’s story is one of passion, persistence, and innovation, as he steadily rises in the music and film industries both in India and the UK.

Growing up in a small village in Noida, Chauhan was drawn to the arts despite coming from a background with no connections to the entertainment industry. “As a child, I always wanted to tell stories to the world,” he recalls. His love for music and film was sparked early, though he kept it hidden from his family, who were focused on more conventional career paths.

Chauhan’s journey took a decisive turn when he worked alongside Bollywood veteran Shakti Kapoor on the horror-comedy Shootiyapa, where he served as an assistant director. It was here that Chauhan had a breakthrough, seizing an unexpected opportunity to pitch his musical talent. His work impressed the producers, leading him to compose the title track for the film. This experience solidified his determination to pursue a career that combined his passions for music and storytelling.

Beyond Bollywood, Chauhan’s talents also drew the attention of South Indian cinema, where he had the opportunity to work with renowned actor Prithviraj Sukumaran on some undertakings. These early projects allowed Chauhan to gain critical experience while carving out his unique artistic niche.

In 2021, Chauhan took a bold leap, moving to London to pursue a Master’s in Film Directing at the prestigious Met Film School in Ealing. The move was challenging yet transformative, as he navigated a new culture and artistic landscape without prior connections or financial backing. “Coming to London was like starting from scratch,” Chauhan reflects. “I had limited resources, but I knew I had to create my own path.” To make ends meet and build his portfolio, Chauhan started producing videos for London-based artists, often for free, in exchange for studio time to work on his own music.

Despite the language barrier, Chauhan’s Hindi music resonated with London audiences, highlighting the universal power of music. “To enjoy music, you don’t need to understand the language—you just need to feel it,” he says. His persistence has since earned him a supportive following in London’s music scene.

Chauhan’s artistic drive has not only shaped his music career but also fueled his ambition as a filmmaker. His educational experience in London inspired him to apply filmmaking principles to his music videos, which he now directs as a creative director. His journey demonstrates how passion and adaptability can break through the toughest of barriers, inspiring other aspiring artists around the world.

As Chauhan continues to evolve his work across both music and film, his story is a powerful reminder of the resilience and creativity required to succeed in the arts. From his early days performing in Delhi's Mandi House theatre scene to his current ventures in London, Chauhan’s journey stands as a testament to the power of storytelling and the universal reach of art.
