Dr Dre’s 'Compton' album soundtrack outselling the rest of the UK Top 5

Hip-hop heavyweight Dr Dre looks set to make a glorious return to the Official Albums Chart this week as his 'Compton' soundtrack takes an early lead on this week’s UK Top 40.

The rapper and producer’s first record in 16 years – since 1999’s 2001 - is at No.1 on today’s Official Chart Update and is currently outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined.

'Compton' marks the superstar’s third album and if he holds on to his current position, it will be his first UK chart-topper. The record also serves as the soundtrack to new movie 'Straight Outta Compton', which hits cinemas on August 14.

Meanwhile, folk singer-songwriter Frank Turner starts at No.2 with his sixth album 'Positive Songs For Negative People', and British rock band Don Broco debut at No.3 with their second record 'Automatic'. Their debut, 2012’s 'Priorities', peaked at No.25. Rounding out today’s update Top 5 are Years and Years’ 'Communion' at No.4 and Ed Sheeran’s 'x' at 5.

Italian-English folk singer Jack Savoretti vaults 55 places to No.12 with 'Written In Scars', and house producer Julio Bashmore could enter this week’s Top 20 with his debut album 'Knockin’ Boots', currently at 17. Canadian singer-songwriter Mac Demarco looks likely to land his first UK Top 40 album this week with his fifth LP 'Another One' at No.18, and U.S. industrial metal band Fear Factory enter at No.19 with their ninth album 'Genexus'.
