Sir Elton John on new illness: "I could have died"

Sir Elton John has admitted that he is "lucky to be alive" following a new health scare.

As previously reported, the veteran singer was forced to postpone a number of summer tour dates after discovering out on the road that he had an appendix abscess.

It is said that he battled through a number of live shows before finally admitting defeat and called in the doctors. He exclusively told The Sun:

"I'm lucky to be alive. I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball in agony."

John is due to undergo more tests before having an operation in the UK. His autumn tour dates are unaffected but they could be impacted upon if he has a lengthy recovery period.
